North West Info

The North West River Basin District is home to over 6.8 million people, located primarily within larger urban centres, including Liverpool, Manchester and Blackpool. Around 80% of the North West region is rural, however, with the majority being managed for agricultural purposes, and the area contains three national parks. Many of the waters within this region are internationally important because they are home to rare wildlife or habitats. Development has left a legacy of poor water quality although significant progress has been made over the last 20 years in cleaning up the waters.

The Catchment-Based Approach website is designed to showcase the work of catchment partnerships aross England and Wales and to encourage the sharing and adoption of best practice in stakeholder-led catchment managment planning, delivery and evaluation.
