New resources available on the CaBA website for partnerships interested in designing and managing a water quality monitoring programme.

A workshop was held on 25th February 2020, as part of the EU LIFE Natural Course project, to share experiences and learn about citizen science and field staff water quality monitoring. Simon Browning (Senior Data & Evidence Officer – Westcountry Rivers Trust) and Tim Harris (Microbiologist) shared knowledge of planning and managing a range of water quality monitoring initiatives, including sampling and analysis of nutrients and FIOs (faecal indicator organisms).

Presentations and resources from the workshop are available on the CaBA website HERE. Includes a summary of monitoring equipment, data analysis and visualisation ideas, sampling protocols and advice for FIO monitoring and guidance on planning your strategy, engaging volunteers and resourcing.

Further Resources: available on the CaBA website for partnerships interested in water quality monitoring include:

Water Quality Training: These resources are designed to help you access and analyse existing water quality data, for example, from the Environment Agency’s WIMS database and to show what sort of information can be obtained from different types of water quality monitoring data. There are also resources to help you plan future collaborative monitoring strategies including a template water quality monitoring planner adapted from the PRAGMO approach.

Citizen Science: Further guidance specific to citizen science initiatives including a collection of useful links, contacts, technical references and case studies which other CaBA partnerships have used and shared.
